Electrolux Design Lab Futuristic Appliances at Grand Designs Live 25th April – 4th May 2009, London Excel

Please come along to The House of the Future for a glimpse of how we might be cooking, cooling and cleaning in the home in years to come! We have four concept products on display – a WIFI laundry basket, an electric tongue cum recipe maker, a futuristic clothes rack that cleans too and a cool bag powered by kinetic energy.

Electrolux Stratosphere: the sanitizing clothes rack/valet, by Atilla Sáfráni, Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design, Budapest, Hungary. Someday, instead of tossing clothes on the floor or over the back of a chair when you plan to wear them again, you could have them deodorized and disinfected by Stratosphere.

Electrolux Design Lab08-iBasketElectrolux iBasket: the Wi-Fi-connected clothes hamper and washing machine, by Guopeng Liang, Tongji University, China.

Tired of carrying baskets of laundry back and forth? The see-through iBasket stores dirty clothes and automatically washes them when it fills up.

Electrolux Sook: the social networking recipe generator with electronic tongue, by Adam Brodowski, Savannah College of Art and Design, USA.

Sook, a wireless kitchen assistant concept generates, displays and shares recipes, bringing social networking into the kitchen.

The ingenious devise ‘tastes’ the ingredients with its electronic tongue and suggests recipes – great for using up left over food in the fridge. Then you can email your recipe to your mates!

Electrolux E-bag: the kinetic energy-powered cooler bag, by Apore Püspöki, Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design, Budapest, Hungary. The longer the walk, the cooler the refreshment at the end, thanks to E-bag, a handbag whose cooling system gets its power from being swung back and forth as its owner walks.

About Electrolux Design Lab 2008

2008 was the 6th year of The Electrolux Design Lab Competition. Undergraduate and graduate industrial design students from all over the world were challenged to come up with appliance designs for the future – that relate to a particular theme. The theme for Design Lab 2008 was the ‘Internet Generation’.

The competition for 2008 was aimed at the upper-age segment of the iGeneration (25-35) comprising brand-conscious, busy young professionals who are independent and concerned about the environment, and whose lives are intertwined with technology and online social networks. Contestants were asked to submit designs for appliances for 2-3 years in the future and address food storage, cooking, and/or washing. More than 600 design students from 49 countries entered the Electrolux Design Lab 2008 competition.

Electrolux Design Lab 2009 is now open for entry to industrial design students from all over the world. Closing date 21 May 2009. Please see www.electrolux.com/designlab for more information.
