The lights will go out again for an hour on 26 March at 8:30pm (local) in celebration of Earth Hour, the annual lights-out exercise for millions of people to show their unity for our home planet.
Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour as a stand against climate change. A year later, world famous landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum became symbols of hope for a cause as they stood in darkness during Earth Hour.
In less than half a decade, Earth Hour has garnered the support of millions, with a record 128 countries and territories across the globe coming together last year under one common cause.  Individuals, businesses and cities around the globe have also given their own creative twist to Earth hour, in a bid to get more people to take action.

But the challenge now is what more will you do when the lights come back on? That is the change that will truly have a lasting impact.

Making a commitment to go green isn’t as difficult as it seems.  With the right help and environmentally friendly technology, leading a greener lifestyle could be a definite reality.

Afterall, you can turn off the lights to make a stand during Earth Hour, but your fridge stays on all the time.  Think about the energy and water that’s consumed daily for your washing, cleaning and cooking needs around the home and everyday conveniences do start to add up.  So maybe it’s time to switch to “greener” and more eco-friendly appliances.
