Bloggers usher in the Doom of the Broom

Pinay Ads Comic

They have served humanity well for centuries, but all good things must come to an end. Not to mention make way for a better, brighter and more efficient next generation.

The humble broom met its doom in 10 winning bloggers’ homes at the conclusion of Electrolux’s Doom of the Broom blogging contest in May. Open to all bloggers residing in the Philippines who have been blogging for over a year, the contest saw over 30 entries posted on the Little White Book Facebook page, with over 200 comments resulting.

The mechanics were simple but resulted in many creative and often hilarious blog posts. Filipino bloggers were invited to share their real-life woes with a broom, or walis tambo in Tagalog. Creative efforts in different media such as photos and videos in addition to the written blog were submitted, with each post containing the final line:

“I need change. I want to start the doom of the broom. I need help!”.

And need help they did. A winning entry by Rowena Wendy Lei at Animetric’s World summed the plight of working moms everywhere:

“Although I’m a pretty hands-on mom, I also work full-time. I’m a freelance writer for several magazines, I help out in my hubby’s family business, and I also take on various online projects. On normal days when my kids have school I wake up at 6am and sleep past midnight…In fact I hardly sleep anymore. Can you blame me if the last thing I want to do is pick up a broom and sweep every nook and cranny of the house?”

Aeirin Acosta starred in her own comic on her doomsday moments with her broom, to the delight of over 200 netizens who commented on her blog:

These bloggers, along with seven others, were invited to a special event at A.Venue Suites on 12 May to receive their prize of an Electrolux Dynamica vacuum cleaner.

Like this winning blogger, Electrolux wishes all the winners a clean, efficient and ache-free future with their Dynamicas!
