Filtering the myths of vacuum suction

It keeps the air clear by keeping 99.99% of dust picked up within its system while making only 68 decibels of noise while in operation.

When picking out a vacuum, appliance manufacturers are apt to tout two particular features – the vacuum’s suction power and its high wattage. But while important, the power of a vacuum’s suction and wattage do not tell the entire story when it comes to keeping your home spic and span.

A vacuum’s suction power is important for dust pick-up, as the better the suction, the more likely it is that dirt will be collected efficiently. The vacuum’s high wattage is hence  usually used to tout  the suction performance of a vacuum, where higher wattage is often equated with higher suction results.

But a high wattage may not necessarily be good news. A vacuum’s wattage simply indicates how much electricity is required to run the appliance.

It does not however, serve as a good yardstick to measure how efficient the vacuum actually is at producing the expected suction and cleaning performance.   A lower wattage vacuum could for example perform much more efficiently while using less energy.   This is where the inner workings of the vacuum are as important as the features listed on its packaging.

One example is having a poorly designed nozzle, such as one that is too high off the ground, which can  lead to unsatisfactory cleaning performance in spite of the vacuum’s suction or energy use. This also forces the vacuum to work harder, causing the motor to create more noise and heat while in operation.

Even if the vacuum has excellent dust pick-up capabilities, a poorly sealed filtration system may result in the dust being re-introduced back into the environment.  Not even the best-in-class filters like HEPA filters can help in situations like these.

Well designed vacuums like those from the Electrolux Ultra series ensure  smooth airflow from floor to vacuum, with  a properly sealed filtration system that ensures particles stay in the vacuum and only clean air makes its way back into your living spaces.

UltraOne

The UltraOne is a versatile vacuum that packs both mobility and cleaning power.

The Ultra series’ Aeropro nozzle and tubes have been designed to deliver high, optimal airflow that picks up dust and dirt at minimal noise levels. In tests by the independent German research lab SLG Prüf- und Zertifizierungs GmbH, the dust pick-up and filtration capabilities of the UltraOne, UltraSilencer and UltraActive vacuums scored top marks for their ability to remove more than 99.99% of dirt from a hard floor  and clean the air at the same time.
