Carpeted floors can make living and moving around a house more comfortable, with its soft  surface acting as insulation in cold weather, and muffling sounds from constant movement within the home.

It can, however, be a tad more challenging to clean than regular hard floors.  The fibres of carpets can trap dust particles, dirt and other allergens, and requires regular care to stay clean.

Keeping a carpet dirt-free usually starts with regular vacuuming. Having a good vacuum like the Electrolux UltraOne, UltraActive or Ergorapido BRC, which are specially designed for versatile, fuss-free cleaning, is just the starting point. Here are some quick tips for better cleaning results.

Vacuum once a week

Vacuuming often prolongs the lifespan of carpets by preventing a build up of particles that can wear down and damage carpet fibres. Ideally, any area in the home with heavy traffic should be vacuumed every day.

Ergorapido BRC

The Ergorapido BRC upgrades an award-winning vacuum with the ability to clean the vacuum’s brush roll in seconds with one step on the vacuum’s pedal.

The lightweight Ergorapido BRC is a handy tool for working professionals who prefer shorter but more frequent bursts of vacuuming to fit their busy schedules.  Its grab and go design allows easy handling, while its nozzle, which can rotate 180 degrees, makes it very manoeuvrable.

It may help to divide the floor into quadrants and vacuum each quadrant systematically. Generally, use about seven strokes for highly-used areas and three or four for less-visited ones. Plush carpets may need more attention, since it’s easier for dirt to become embedded in them.

When vacuuming, slowly move the vacuum over the carpet in a criss-cross pattern with overlapping strokes.

For those who prefer a full-powered yet compact vacuum, an Ultra series vacuum like the UltraOne is more than up to the task. Its soft ride wheels can pivot 360 degrees in any direction, allowing the UltraOne to effortlessly glide over most surfaces.

Use the right attachments

Most standard canister vacuums come with several tools and nozzles that serve different uses. When vacuuming the carpet proper, use the motorised power nozzle. The UltraOne’s Aeropro motorised power nozzle is designed to provide efficient deep down carpet cleaning, lifting out embedded dirt and harmful particles from carpet fibres.

UltraOne

The UltraOne comes with a specially designed AeroPro motorised power nozzle – known as the Turbo nozzle – that helps to make short work of dirty carpets.

Use the crevice tool for cleaning the edges of the carpets that are next to walls, tight corners and whenever a bigger nozzle is too clumsy to reach. The UltraOne and UltraActive vacuum cleaners have their various nozzles and tools stored on-board for easy access in such situations.

Maintain your vacuum

A properly maintained vacuum is one that delivers optimal performance. Keep an eye on the dust bags in bagged vacuums, or the dust container in bagless ones. New carpets especially may shed more fibres and fill dust bags more quickly, clogging the air stream. If a bag is more than three-quarters full, it may be time to replace it.

Between the carpet fibres and hair from both human and pets, the vacuum’s brushroll is likely to become clogged quickly. Cleaning the brushroll is essential to optimal functioning of the vacuum, and the Ergorapido BRC allows you to do so with one easy step on a pedal to release trapped fibres and hairs within seconds.
