Baking quick and tasty snacks in a microwave

When it comes to creating quick and tasty foods, don’t discount using the microwave oven. This much maligned appliance has rarely been associated with the creation of great dishes, but that can change with a bit of creativity and knowhow. Here are some ideas for deliciously easy snacks you can bake using just a microwave like the Electrolux EMS3067X, whose five power settings can easily bake or cook any of the recipes below.

You can bake tasty snacks in a mug using just a microwave oven.

Add 4 tablespoons of sugar, 4 tablespoons of flour, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and a dash of salt to the mug and mix. Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil with 2 tablespoons of water and mix everything together thoroughly. There’s a tendency for clumps of dry ingredients to form, so be sure to mix well.

Pop the mug in the microwave on high for about a minute. You may have to adjust the cooking time depending on the microwave, but the brownie should be moist in the center when cooked.

The Electrolux EMS3067X has 5 power levels for a wide variety of uses, from defrosting to cooking entire meals.

Gently melt a tablespoon of butter in the microwave, or power level 4 with the Electrolux EMS3067X to do so. Stir in 1 tablespoon of white sugar and 1 tablespoon of firmly packed brown sugar, 3 drops of vanilla extract and a small pinch of salt.

Add about a quarter of a cup of flour, then stir again. Add 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips and mix well. Cook in the microwave on a high setting for about a minute, although do check its doneness at about 40 seconds. The cookie will continue cooking as it cools, so don’t let it become dry or cake-like before taking it out.

Many tend to shy away from cooking eggs in the microwave due to the misconception that eggs explode when cooked in it. The fact is that eggs only do so when cooked in their shells because of the buildup of steam inside the egg.

So feel free to whip up a quick quiche with an egg, 1.5 tablespoons of milk, a quarter of a bagel, 2 teaspoons cream cheese and half a slice of ham. Simply beat the egg and milk together, then tear the bread into small pieces and stir it in with the cream cheese. Cut the ham into small pieces and add it to the mixture, then sprinkle with thyme and add salt and pepper to taste.

Microwave it in on a high setting, or on power level 1 with the Electrolux EMS3067X for about 1 minute 10 seconds. When it’s finished cooking, garnish with mustard and fresh thyme or chives.

When you feel ready to make a light meal in a mug, try making some meatloaf. Mix 2 tablespoons of milk with 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 2 tablespons of oats and 1 teaspoon of an onion soup mix in a bowl. Crumble about 110 grams of ground beef over the mixture and mix the lot well.

Pat the final mixture into a mug coated with cooking spray. Cover and microwave on high for 3 minutes or until the meat is no longer pink.
