Quick tips to clean up like a professional

Getting that extra shine out of the floors and furniture need not be a matter of paying the professionals. With some extra attention to detail, the house can be made to sparkle as though you’ve called in the experts.

Don’t forget the curtains

Curtains, especially heavy ones, are often neglected during home cleaning. But they need to be cleaned thoroughly at least once a year or they might rot.

If your curtains are made of materials like velvet, tapestry or brocade, take them to the dry cleaners. Curtains made of cotton or similar textiles can be washed at home with washing machines like the new Electrolux Time Manager range. These latest models feature extra-large doors and drum capacities of up to 10kg to wash larger loads of fabric.

Time Manager
The latest range of Electrolux Time Manager washing machines come with intelligent features that provide an optimal wash for different fabrics.

For mildewed curtains, wash them on a cool setting in the washing machine and add two cups of vinegar to the rinse cycle for a half load.

Clean up cooking appliances

The stove top and oven are two major appliances that can make a kitchen look cleaner or grimier, depending on the state you leave them in.

Simply clean the stove and oven using a paste made of baking soda and water.  Apply the paste to the surface, wait 30 minutes, then wipe off with a damp cloth. Some stovetops like the Electrolux Brio cooking hob are made with a tempered glass surface, which are easier to clean and reduces the need to use such cleaning agents. Ovens like the Electrolux EOC69400X intelligent oven come with pyrolytic self-cleaning, which reduces any organic matter left in the oven to ash for easier removal of dirt.

Take care of your bedding

It’s not just the bedsheets that need a good wash, the mattress can benefit from a good vacuuming too.  If your vacuum comes with an upholstery tool, use it to vacuum the top and sides of the mattress.  Also remember to pick up the dust in the crevices between the mattress and bed frame. The Electrolux UltraActive vacuum comes with onboard tools for easy storage, access to different tools and handling, in addition to getting maximum cleaning performance from its powerful 2100W motor.

The UltraActive vacuum has onboard tools that make it easier to clean different surfaces.

Another useful tip: for a fresher smelling mattress, sprinkle some baking soda on it and leave it for 30 minutes.  Then run the vacuum over the mattress.

Clean the lights, too

If you want to see the brighter results of your efforts, make sure to clean the lights, lamp shades and bulbs.  A regular dish soap can be used to clean the removable parts of the lights, while fixed parts should be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
