Easy tips for fresh smelling clothing

Photos

Every wardrobe has a couple of pieces that are rarely worn. Storing them for extended periods of time can result in musty smelling clothes and the problem is further exacerbated by a humid climate that encourages moisture in the environment.

That’s why it may be a good idea to pop clothes that have been stored a long time in dryers like the Electrolux EDH3497RDW. Its Refresh cycle helps to freshen up clothing by removing odours and wrinkles, making it a quick and easy way to get your clothes presentable for an outing.

In the meantime, there are other items you can use to keep your clothes smelling great in the closet.

Make it clean

Clothes absorb the fragrance or odours of the closet, so ensure that the closet is clear of any items that may be contributing to a bad smell in the area. Make sure that you only put in clean, fresh-smelling laundry.

If you store shoes in another section of the closet, make sure to air them outside for 15 minutes before placing them back in the closet. If you need to, use sprays designed to neutralise foot odours on the shoes before storing them away.

Absorb odours

Use common household items like baking soda and charcoal to help absorb funky smells in the closet. Place an open box of baking soda, or an aluminium pie tin with charcoal briquettes on the floor of your closet to draw in and absorb any odours. This helps to reduce musty or stale smells in the enclosed area.

Put in good smells

Dryer sheets aren’t just great for use in dryer, they can be placed in the corners of a closet, between towels or in shoes to freshen up the air and keep your clothes smelling freshly laundered.

Dryer sheets are durable, gauze-like tissues that are usually used in dryers to add fragrance, eliminate static cling between clothes and soften them.

Put some potpourri in a bag or sachet and hang it in the closet to remove any lingering odours.

Sachets or mesh bags containing potpourri and cedar chips can also be hung on the rods to give the closet a natural, fresh smell that will be absorbed by your clothes.

If you particularly like the fragrance of a bar of soap, place them in your closets to give the clothing the same smell. Alternatively, you can spritz your favourite perfume onto cotton balls and place them in the corner of your closet.
