Gourmet twists to common finger foods


Serving finger foods at parties can be great fun, giving guests small, delicious bites throughout the evening while they mingle with one another. They are also easier to prepare than ambitious multiple course meals

Best of all, they can be cooked in large batches with ovens like the Electrolux EOB2400AOX oven, whose 74-litre capacity allows for multiple trays of foods to be prepared at once. Here are some easy gourmet variations to help give your finger foods that extra oomph:


This popular Italian favourite usually features grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with tomatoes, olive oil, salt and pepper.  Give it an epicurean twist with asparagus, gruyere cheese and prosciutto or Parma ham.  Start by cooking the asparagus until tender and crisp, then chop into sections. Next, simply slice the ham and grate the cheese.  All that’s left is to arrange the asparagus on the bread, then cover it with the ham and cheese. Place on a baking sheet and broil until the cheese just starts to melt.

French fries

Throw out the commercially packaged stuff and hand-cut the fries from russet or Idaho potatoes. Fry them at 160oC for 1 ½ minutes, drain off the excess fat and set aside to cool.  Next, fry them again at 190oC for 1 ½ minutes to make them crispy.  Sprinkle with truffle salt and toss.  To finish it off, drizzle truffle oil over the fries and top with grated parmigiana or pecorino romano cheese for a popular gourmet nibble.

These mini-burgers rarely get a bad reception. Make them fit for the pickiest of eaters with wagyu beef and gruyere cheese.  It doesn’t always have to be beef as well. Consider filling your sliders with alternative meats, such as roasted pork belly with pickled cabbage and maple mustard.  Other gourmet alternatives include crab cake with tartar sauce and chicken and pine nut patties.









The humble slider can be turned into a gourmet experience with creative fillings and sides.
