Electrolux Celebrates Memphis Milestone
City, county and state officials join Electrolux leaders in groundbreaking ceremony
Electrolux leaders celebrated with state, county and city officials today on the site of its new North American Cooking Products manufacturing center in Memphis to mark the start of work on the site.
“With the addition of this facility, Tennessee will become the North American Center of Excellence for Electrolux cooking product development and manufacturing,” said Jack Truong, President and CEO of Electrolux Major Appliances, North America. “We are very excited to see the hard work of the past 10 months come to fruition and thank the city, county and state for their support of Electrolux Company.”
Last December, Electrolux announced the selection of Memphis, Tenn. as the location of its new North American Cooking Products manufacturing center.
Memphis was the clear choice for the facility for a number of reasons including:
• Synergies with other Electrolux plants — The Company will be able to better leverage its existing base of resources, especially those at its cooking operations in Springfield, Tenn.
• Memphis’s resources and location advantages — Electrolux was also attracted by the skilled labor pool in the Memphis area, and the area’s central location and excellent logistics, which will improve access to the company’s key markets, customers and suppliers.
The Memphis plant is expected to add more than 1,200 jobs in Memphis and will build the company’s Electrolux ® brand, Electrolux ICON ® brand and Frigidaire ® brand built-in and specialty cooking products. These include: Drop-in/Slide-in Ranges, Wall Ovens, Specialty Freestanding Ranges, and Cooktops.
“The state of Tennessee has been very supportive of Electrolux over the years and we appreciate their continued support as we realize our vision of making Tennessee the North American Center of Excellence for Electrolux Cooking Products,” said Truong.
The facility is expected to be fully operational in 2014.
