$50,000 of appliances to those who help others

Charlotte, N.C.  December 18, 2013 – Electrolux announced today it will donate $50,000 worth of appliances to the region’s food pantries and soup kitchens, as a holiday gift to those who help our neighbors in need. The company today delivered a truckload of freezers, refrigerators and stoves to Second Harvest Food Bank, with a second truck scheduled for next week.

“This is a busy time of year for those who help the needy,” said Johnny Cope, Vice President of Contract Sales, Electrolux Major Appliances North America. “We wanted to do something for those who help others, and to support them in their mission to assist those who might otherwise go hungry at this time of year.”

Officials from Electrolux addressed a gathering of leaders of nonprofit food-related charities, who had come to the Second Harvest loading dock to pick up their new appliances. The appliances are going to more than 40 agencies throughout the region. Organizations benefiting from the donation, including soup kitchens, food pantries, pre-schools, homeless shelters and agencies serving seniors, were chosen from among Second Harvest’s partner agencies.

Kay Carter, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank, said, “This is an unprecedented donation that will make a huge difference to these agencies and the people they serve.  The ability to store fresh food is critical to our mission to provide adequate nutrition, and in some cases these appliances will double a facility’s capacity to do that.”

The donation brings the value of the products Electrolux has donated in the Charlotte area this year to more than $550,000. “Our manufacturing processes are high-tech,” said Cope, “But we recognize that our products fulfill a very basic human need.”

Schneider National transport, which has a hub in Charlotte, donated time and labor to provide transportation for the items.

Electrolux manufactures cooking, laundry, dishwashers, refrigerators and freezer products at its nine North American factories. The majority of the products are designed locally in Charlotte, where the company’s North American business has been headquartered for three years.
