Electrolux Donates 300 Air Conditioners to Memphis Residents

Company Makes Air Conditioner Donation for Third Successive Summer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. July 14, 2015 – Electrolux today donated 300 air conditioning units as part of its “Keeping Memphis Cool” initiative to local residents affected by the high summer temperatures. This marks the third year that Electrolux has partnered with Neighborhood Christian Centers (NCC) to coordinate a community donation to help disadvantaged Memphis residents. Priority was given to households with seniors 60 and older, disabled residents and those who have been laid off from work or are on medical leave.
Today’s donation of state-of-the-art, energy-efficient Frigidaire room air conditioners is valued at nearly $72,000 and represents the fourth major donation of appliances that Electrolux has provided to Memphis residents. Since July 2013, the company has donated air conditioners and cooking appliances valued at more than $290,000.
“We are happy to once again provide assistance to help Memphians find relief from the summer heat,” said Terry Thomas, director of Human Resources for the Memphis plant. “Our partnership with NCC has helped us connect with those in need – and especially the underserved in our community – to give them the comforts of a home.”
Electrolux, which sells these air conditioning units under its Frigidaire brand, produces cooking products at its Memphis manufacturing facility.
“When Electrolux opened its Memphis manufacturing facility, we made a commitment to invest in and serve the community,” said Thomas. “We have been able to provide Memphis residents with jobs and use the appliances we produce to improve the lives of our neighbors, and that’s gratifying.”
According to NCC CEO and President Ephie Johnson, the assistance from Electrolux is always welcome and needed. “We’re delighted to partner once again with Electrolux on this very important initiative. The response we get for this donation and the gratitude from recipients lets us know the impact that a simple gift can have,” she said.
